Etymology

The name Doha came about forty years ago, where the land of Doha city was followed by the city of Beit Jala, and through generous donation from the Qatari government. In 1978, the municipality of Beit Jala cut a main road connecting the city of Beit Jala from the south-west to continue with the street In recognition of their generous donations, the municipal council called this road the name "Doha". It was then formed by the Doha Municipal Council in 1996 and by a decision of the late President Yasser Arafat.

  • The city of Doha is 850 meters above sea level. The annual rainfall is about 613 mm. The average temperature is 16 ° C and the relative humidity is about 60.6%.
  • Doha is located between the cities of Bethlehem and Beit Jala. It shares the border with the north and east. It is bordered to the west by the town of al-Khader, to the south by the Dheisheh camp and the village of Artas.
  • The city of Doha is approximately 1800 dunums according to the master plan, which is populated by 12752 residents. Most of them are Palestinian refugees, or about 90% of the city's population who came from the neighboring Palestinian refugee camps who lived in Doha city in search of security, stability and tranquility. The hope of a new life is a dignified life away from the population pressure and population density experienced by the camps and the centers of the old cities and villages, which positively reflected on the refinement of relations and strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and love among the population as they all share the same dreams ,hopes and circumstances .
